10 Family-Friendly Day Trips in the UK

You don't need a passport for a great family day out. The UK is packed with places where kids can run, climb, splash and learn – and parents can still enjoy a decent coffee. Here are ten favourites, from coast to countryside.

1. Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door, Dorset

A sheltered cove, a famous limestone arch and rock pools to explore on the Jurassic Coast. The path between the two is steep in places, so pack good shoes and a bottle of water each.

2. The Eden Project, Cornwall

Giant biomes with a rainforest and Mediterranean gardens – a great choice when the weather can't make up its mind.

3. Whitby, North Yorkshire

Abbey ruins, the 199 steps, a sandy beach and fish and chips by the harbour. Bring layers: the North Sea breeze is real, even in summer.
